Status of "Top 25" Tracts Targeted for Preservation
Hamilton's Open Space and Recreation Plan contains an inventory of the remaining undeveloped land in the township - about 4,500 acres as of 2003. Of that total, the plan identifies about 1,500 acres as the "top 25" parcels to be preserved over the next 20 years. This scorecard provides an update on how the township is doing in its effort to save the "top 25" since the Plan was adopted in April 2003.

Note that nothing prevents Hamilton from preserving land not listed on the Open Space Plan. Also, the Plan is a guide to preservation, not a legally binding document.

Summary:
Of the approximately 1,500 acres in the "top 25", over 500 acres or about 35% has been developed*. Over 200 acres or about 13% has been preserved**. Hamilton's Open Space Plan is a 20 year plan, but at the current rate of development it is doubtful that there will be any land left to preserve in 20 years.
